ABOUT

Technical Sergeant Derek F. Miles is assigned as Flight Chief ATCALS installations assigned to the Headquarters Air Force Flight Standards Agency. He installs, maintains, and repairs navigation aids valued at $41 million in support of both the United States Air Force and North Atlantic Treaty Organization objectives worldwide at 82 bases. He provides 24-hour instrument landing system support to both American and NATO forces worldwide. Which directly supports the Air Force's $9.5 billion dollar flying hour program.

 

Sergeant Miles was born in Buffalo, NY. He attended the University of Buffalo, graduating in 2011 with his bachelor's. He also played college division three basketball and volleyball. He subsequently enlisted in the Air Force in 2012 and arrived at Lackland AFB, Texas, for basic training. Sergeant Miles is the unit sexual assault prevention and response trainer and resiliency. He serves as a crisis response advocate for the local community of Oklahoma county, serving 700 thousand residents as well. Prior to his current assignment, he served as Radar, Airfield, and Weather Systems (RAWS) NCOIC and Group Executive Officer 39th Weapons Systems Security Group, Incirlik Air Base, Republic of Turkey.
